Surplus!!
reporter: Jonathan, 11.10.06
New Zealand has just posted a 11.47 billion dollar surplus! Why is this? sorry Dr Cullen... who couldn't afford tax cuts?
$11,470,000,000 surplus
divided by
4,152,238 population
equals
$2762 per person
divided by
4,152,238 population
equals
$2762 per person
That for every man, woman and child that lives in New Zealand.
$53.12 every week they could've paid back to each New Zealander.

I think a more eye-opening calculation would be rather than to divide that surplus amongst all New Zealanders, to divide it only amongst taxpayers, and then make it proportional to the tax each has paid already.

the real laugh of course is what he has planned:
Finance Minister Michael Cullen has announced a record surplus, but says he will not know until the end of the year whether he has enough cash for tax cuts.
