Girls! This post is dedicated to girls
reporter: Jonathan, 15.6.05
I have been thinking recently and have decided that I feel incredibly sorry for girls! And also that I would never want to be one! With the push of the feminist movement women now have the vote and many other opportunities in life mainly in the area of career choices and the like.
But why I feel sorry for girls is because along side these things the pressure on girls to fit in and look good has also increased.
My thinking on this came about due to the discussion of facial hair. A lot of girls don’t like facial hair, and a possible explanation for this I think could be that girls are jealous.
If I guy does not shave his face for a few weeks, no one really cares! It doesn’t affect him and doesn’t really affect others. The odd person might say “that looks bad” but also people may say “that looks good”. No big deal.
But,
If a girl were to not shave her legs for 3 weeks! That’s social suicide! She couldn’t leave the house! People would laugh at her and talk about it behind her back!
I suggest an underlying reason for girls problem with facial hair is that they wish this same pressure that is on them, to be on the guys also!
Shame on us!
Shame on society!
That we are so superficial!

You have hit the nail on the head! Great post Jono.
A little confused by 'A lot of girls don’t like facial hair' and then 'The odd person might say that looks bad' Contradiction?

No Contradiction there. Sure a lot of Girls may not like facial hair. The "odd person might say" is the odd person vocalising their dislike of the said facial hair. More people my not like it... but they just don't say anything about it. I very rarely have my facial hair commented on. But i would sugesst if you were wandering around proudly showing off a months growth of leg hair. people would talk about it... maybe not to you... but they'd talk about it. And i think that's sad.

oh and when you say i've hit the nail on the head... is that regarding my comments about our sad society? or girls being jealous? :)

you're exactly right, Jono. Poor girls. Society dictates their lives.
If i was a boy i'd do cool things with my facial hair, but as a girl do I get a choice about my leg hair? Eyebrows? Armpits? moustache?
Have you been reading my blog?! Aaawesome...

I was told about your blog and had a quick look at your facial hair comments. all good. It's been a bit of a long running discussion up here in aucks. All i can say is that i'm the proud owner of facial hair. I must confess the main reason for that is not looks. It is for convienience sake. and also that the day after a shave it's very itchy! so if i just don't shave!... it's not itchy! common sence i recon. If you have a sweater that looks real nice... but it's itchy... or a hideous sweater that's not... i know which one i'd wear!

not really girls being jealous but about the pressure to look good and fit in that guys don't have. Just as you say you can a beard etc cause you have the can't-be-bothers but if a girl did the same thing well tsk tsk. Most guys are pretty grossed out but hairy legs armpits etc on a chick but girls don't have the same strong opinion cause the expectations for men are lower.
PS I like the beard thing that you have happening at the mo- it looks tidy (last time I saw you anyway) It is the bushy unkempt beard thing that is unattractive (my my opinion)
The itchy post shave thing- a good moisturiser would take care of that.

Nice to see something on your blog Jono! Us poor girls. We do have it tough! But then, shaving is really a cultural (American) thing. Go to Europe and you will find plenty of unshaven girls and no ones talking behind their back! For all you men who like your girls hairy.... Yuck.

* crack of thunder *
It's alive! Aliiiiiveeee! Mwahahahaha!
heh.
Thing with shaving is it's different from other hair. Denser and thicker hair means more scraping pressure (or more care and time which let's face it blokes don't bother with). Which results in more skin being scraped off. Thus the itching. Moisture would help, but it's the lack of dead skin covering the surface that itches as the live layer dies to take it's place. Or something like that. Also the regrowth through the new skin would itch too.
Must also comment that it was a woman who brought up the topic of moisturiser :-)

wicked. more comments! thanks guys! To be honest!...all males look away now!... i do actually use moisturiser.. and apparently it's a good one... (ok guys back now) but still itchy! so hmmm.
I would agree totally with the thing about most guys being grossed out by chick hair shall we call it. But I would also suggest that girls care alot more out how other girls would view them than guys care about how other guys view them.
So Yeah... There's alot of pressure on girls from guys and i would even go as far as saying even more pressure on them from other girls.
maybe i'm wrong... we'll see
